In studying for our upcoming series, “Credo,” I am reminded that there is not an order of submission or hierarchy when it comes to the Trinity (Triune God). While scripture tells us of three distinct expressions of God, these expressions are not independent of one another, but connected as they dwell inside one another in this mutual dwelling (Perichoresis). In other words, the Godhead is this great community of love that is working to redeem humanity and we are all invited to be a part of this community and join in the activity of Godhead.
The Church of the Nazarene believes this about the Triune God:
1. We believe in one eternally existent, infinite God, Sovereign Creator and Sustainer of the universe; that He only is God, [creative and administrative,] holy in nature, attributes, and purpose[;]. The God who is holy love and light [that He, as God,] is Triune in essential being, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
